Visit Kawah Putih, a volcanic crater lake at the foot of Mount Patuha

Visit Kawah Putih - It had always been a dream of mine to visit Kawah Putih, a volcanic crater lake at the foot of Mount Patuha, near Bandung.

The natural wonder has been used as the backdrop for a number of fashion spreads and music videos in recent years, due to its stunning color contrasts and its isolated, middle-of-nowhere feel. That is why I jumped at the chance last week to visit the crater with my cousin, who was making a trip to Bandung. We had been to Bandung plenty of times, to enjoy its shopping and culinary scenes, the hot springs at Ciater and the vistas of Tangkuban Perahu. This time, we vowed to make the drive out to Kawah Putih as well.

Located at the top of Mount Patuha, Kawah Putih is around 40 kilometers from Bandung, or a three-hour drive from Jakarta. The best way to get there from the capital is to take the Cipularang toll, exit at Kopo and head straight for Ciwidey.

Ciwidey itself is a fascinating destination if you have enough time to drop by. In the gardens there, you can pick strawberries to take home, or to eat right there among the beautiful mountain scenery.

There are also a number of food stalls offering strawberry-inspired dishes, including strawberry meatball soup, strawberry spaghetti and even strawberry fried rice. The food in Ciwidey is well-priced.

Not so for the entrance fee at Kawah Putih, as my cousin and I were soon to discover. We were shocked to learn the fee for the two of us to enter the natural site was Rp 180,000 ($20) — Rp 150,000 for the car, plus Rp 15,000 per person.

Visitors arriving by motorcycle only have to pay a fee of Rp 5,000 for their vehicle, so it is not clear why the fee for cars was so expensive. We begrudgingly handed over the cash and tried to enjoy the natural surroundings.

With such a mystical atmosphere, it is no wonder Kawah Putih has long been the subject of local myths and legends. Many people who live in the area believe that the crater is where the spirits of their ancestors reside. Before Dutch explorer Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn came across the crater in 1837, local people avoided the site because they were afraid of the powerful spirits.

The nearby Mount Patuha is also considered to be an ancestral site. Its name comes from “Pak Tua,” or “Old Man,” a term used to refer to honored seniors in society. The mountain’s other name, Mount Sepuh, means “the honored” — another reference to the ancestors.

My cousin and I took a walk around the crater, admiring its white, chalky walls and the hues of turquoise in the water. The water is colored by a high sulfur content and changes according to the weather.

Some visitors find the sulfuric fumes overwhelming, so it is recommended that a face mask is worn and no more than 15 minutes at a time is spent in the crater. Taking in the view, my cousin and I stayed for more than half an hour and soon began to feel light-headed.

Batagor RIRI in Bandung - Salah satu kuliner Bandung yang banyak diburu oleh para wisatawan adalah Batagor. Salah satu "top of mind" dari batagor Bandung ini adalah Batagor RIRI. Yup, Batagor Riri disebut-sebut sebagai salah satu pelopor yang membuat nama Batagor menjadi kondang sebagai kuliner khas kota Bandung. Kelebihannya menurut saya salah satunya ada di tahunya, karena tahu bandung memang terkenal kelezatannya. Ditambah dengan bumbu kacang yang khas dengan tingkat kepedasan yang pas.... Seluruupp... Oh iya, biasanya selain batagor, orang juga memesan siomay. Isinya sama, tapi jika batagor menggunakan tahu sebagai "kulit"nya sedangkan siomay menggunakan pangsit.

Saat ini Batagor Riri juga melakukan diversifikasi makanan dengan menambahkan sajian Bakso Malang. Tapi menurut saya masih agak jauh rasanya jika dibandingkan dengan "tetangga"nya, Bakso Malang Enggal. Saya juga mencoba Batagor kuah yang tidak diberi bumbu kacang tapi dikasih kuah. Enak sih, tapi tentu saja kalah "menggigit" jika dibandingkan Batagor biasa. Bumbu kacang merupakan salah satu point utama dari sajian batagor ini, itu yang hilang dari sajian batagor kuah.

Batagor RIRI bisa kita santap di tempat atau kita bungkus untuk dijadikan buah tangan. Biasanya dijual dalam paket yang berisi 10 buah batagor atau siomay, tergantung selera. Bisa kita pilih sendiri variasinya. Kita pun bisa memesannya 1/2 matang, sehingga kita dapat menggorengnya kembali ketika sampai rumah. Tapi ingat, karena tidak menggunakan bahan pengawet, batagor ini hanya tahan 24 jam saja, kecuali jika dimasukkan ke dalam kulkas bisa tahan 3-4 hari. Harga satu buah batagor/siomay nya Rp. 7000. Cukup mahal memang...

Selain pusatnya di Jl. Burangrang ini, Batagor Riri yang mulai membuka usahanya sejak 1985 ini, juga telah mempunyai cabang di beberapa tempat di Bandung yaitu di Paskal Hypersquare, Jl Kebon kawung, Mode Plus (Setiabudi), Level Outlet (Dago) dan Sosis Kita (Pasirkaliki). Semua cabangnya memang hanya ada di kota Bandung. Buat yang di luar Bandung??? Ya dateng aja ke Bandung hehehe

Bakmi Jogja Bengawan in Bandung - "Menikmati suasana Jogja di Tatar Pasundan", itu yang pertama kali saya rasakan ketika masuk ke dalam Kedai Bakmi Jogja Bengawan ini. Menu andalannya ada Bakmi, ada pilihannya yaitu Godhok (rebus)/Goreng/ Nyemek (basah tapi tidak terlalu berkuah seperti godhok). Saya pesan Bakmi Nyemek. Memang ya, kalo masakan dimasaknya pake areng, belum pernah kecewa deh. Bakmi Jawa yang dimasak dengan telur, potongan ayam dan kol ini rasanya aduhaii, mirip ketika saya menikmatinya di Kota Jogja langsung seperti di Bakmi Jombor atau Pak Pele. Slurruuppp... Harga: Rp.17.000,-

Selain bakmi atau bihun, Bakmi Jogja Bengawan ini juga menyediakan Nasi Goreng Jogja sebagai pilihan menunya. Atau kita juga bisa pilih Nasi Ruwet, serupa dengan nasi goreng tapi ditambahkan mie juga. Orang juga sering menyebutnya dengan Nasi Mawut atau Magelangan. Dengan tingkat kepedasan "sedang", manis dan pedasnya Nasi Ruwet ini begitu memanjakan lidah. Uenak bangeett... Bumbunya meresap di tiap bulir nasinya, mungkin ini juga efek masak pake arang :) Jika mau kita juga bisa menambahkan ati ampela/uritan/brutu/sewiwi untuk memperkaya isi dari Nasi Ruwet ini. Harga: Rp. 17.000,-

Minumnya? Coba Ronde Jogja-nya. Atau kalau kenyang pilih Teh Poci Gula Batu. Teh tubruk yang disajikan dalam poci dan disandingkan dengan gula batu pada cangkirnya, ini adalah minuman favorit saya sepanjang masa. Selain teh tubruk yang panas dan pekat, aroma manis yang diberikan oleh gula batunya juga menimbulkan rasa yang berbeda. Menyegarkan raga sekaligus jiwa kita

Asalnya Bakmi Jogja ini menempati rumah di bilangan Jl Bengawan, Bandung sebelum pindah ke kawasan Taman Pramuka. Oleh karena itu nama Bengawan masih melekat di nama "Bakmi Jogja"-nya agar pengunjung tidak salah. Berbeda dengan rumah makan lain, Bakmi Jogja Bengawan ini "menyimpan" dapurnya justru bagian paling depan, sehingga pengunjung bisa melihat langsung proses pembuatan makanan yang dipesan. Musik gending Jawa yang mengalun syahdu, pakaian yang dikenakan sampai bahasa Jawa halus yang digunakan para pelayannya membuat kita lupa bahwa kita sedang menikmati kuliner di Bandung. Suasana Jogja memang tampaknya sengaja diciptakan sang pemiliki secara total, sehingga para pelayannya pun tak sungkan berbahasa Jawa halus jiga mengetahui pelanggannya dapat berbahasa Jawa. Sangat direkomendasikan buat yang ingin merasakan Bakmi Jogja asli di ibu kota Jawa Barat ini...

Everlasting Taste of Colenak Murdi Bandung Indonesia - "Dicocol enak alias colenak", not familiar with the culinary name is very catchy and it's interesting the reader in Bandung? Although you have never tasted the colenak this, but surely you've heard about the snacks though only a flash of Bandung typical right? Or even ever seen a culinary mainstay products of these flowers in supermarkets, hawker center city as well-star hotel?

Well, wonder what the heck abis rich snacks such thing as very Nyunda this? Colenak is made from a tape (a type of traditional fermented food made from cassava and sticky rice) which was burned and stamped by liquid sugar and accompanied by grated coconut. Yum, yum rich maknyus abis ya just imagine the shape, flavor and distinctive sweetness. Hmm .. do not stay long dong daydreaming about the colenak this, we immediately wrote yuk acquaintance same one that Bandung colenak really famous, his name Colenak Murdi, friends!

Yaps, this snack brand name is derived from the name of the merchants who peddle colenak first time in Indonesia, Bandung city exactly who we love, his name is Murdi. It was said nih Pak is already selling Murdi colenak since the 1930's where our homeland is still colonized by the Dutch. FYI, originally the name of confectionary colenak Sunda is not pretty, his first of the late Mr. Murdi is named "peuyeum digulaan" but eventually renamed change colenak (dicocol tasty) as requested by the customers from the street by Mr. Murdi this.

Black Pepper Ice Cream Bandung

Black Pepper Ice Cream Bandung, es krim sebenarnya sudah tidak asing lagi di lidah masyarakat kita, nah sebagai informasi saja dan siapa tahu bermanfaat ya. Es Krim, siapa sih belum pernah coba? Tapi pernah gak nyicipin es krim rasa Black Pepper? atau Cheddar Cheese? Nah, di Bandung sekarang ada kedai es krim yang menyajikan cita rasa yang unik dan beda ama yang lain. Nama tempatnya Sub 7ero Frozen yang terletak di dalam komplek Margahayu Raya. Kita bisa nemuin rasa eskrim yang beda disini. Black Pepper Ice Cream, merupakan andalan tempat ini. Terus terang di awal saya ragu untuk mencobanya karena gak kebayang bakal enak. Tapi ketika es tersebut sampai ke lidah kita, wuidiihhh, dahsyat. Unik banget, ada rasa pedas yang nyempil di es krim ini yang membuatnya beda. Bener.. rasa black pepper.. Apalagi dengan "guyuran" saus caramelnya... mmmhhhh...

Satu lagi yang asik disini adalah Cheddar Cheese Ice Cream. Es krim rasa keju... Unik banget tapi yummiee banget... Rasa kejunya begitu kental, tapi gak bikin eneg. Ternyata kalo diolahnya bener, asik juga keju jadi rasa es krim. Jempolll...

Buat yang pengen seger-seger rasa buah, ada tiga pilihan yang "bersaing" merebut hati pelanggan. Yang pertama: Pink Guava Ice Cream, Es krim rasa jambu. Yang Kedua: Tropical Fruis Ice Cream, es krim dengan rasa mangga yang nendang. N yang ketiga: Fruits of The Sun Ice Cream, es krim rasa jeruk, ada rasa manis tapi disentil dengan rasa asem-asemnya jeruk. Tiga-tiganya juara...

Buat yang suka coklat boleh pilih diantara tiga pilihan ini: Chocolate Chips, Vanilla Oreo, sama White Chocolate Ice Cream. Tiga-tiganya mantabs, tapi favorit saya White Chocolate. Coklatnya itu loh, "kentel" banget rasanya... Vanila Oreonya juga asik, bener2 kaya makan oreo dalam bentuk es :)

Buat yang suka asem-asem juga ada pilihan es krim yang tersedia seperti: Natural Yoghurt, Wild Berry dan Cherry Balsamic. Nah yang ini terus terang belum sempet nyobain. Pe-er buat temen2 semua buat nyicipin n kasih comment disini :)

Compare dengan berbagai kedai es krim lainnya, saya pikir harga di Sub 7ero ini cukup bersaing. Satu single scoop cukup ditebus dengan harga Rp. 8500 dan untuk yg double hanya Rp. 14.000. Kalo mau tambah topping tinggal tambah Rp. 1500 / topping. Ada berbagai pilihan seperti saus caramel, saus coklat, saus strawberry, coco crunch, astor, coklat m&m dan sebagainya. Kita pun bisa bawa pulang dengan memilih Paket 6 rasa dengan harga hanya Rp 33.000 aja, rasanya boleh kita pilih sendiri, bebas...

Para pelaku kuliner Bandung memang terkenal akan kreativitasnya. Olahan menarik dari es krim ini salah satu contohnya. Sub 7ero ini bahkan sudah diliput TV swasta loh, saking uniknya. Cuma untuk menemukan kedainya agak sulit karena berada di tengah-tengah komplek perumahan besar dan belum banyak orang tah. Kalo emang bener-bener pengen kesana, kontak saya aja deh yah hehehe. Tapi kalo udah mencicipi es krim ini, dijamin gak kan nyesel...

Enaknya Roti Bumbu-Bakar "Cari Rasa" Kosambi Bandung

Penggemar roti terutama roti bakar pastinya sangat menginginkan rasa yang enak dan harga yang terjangkau, nah di kosambi Bandung ada satu tukang roti bumbu bakar namanya Cari Rasa. Pedagang roti bakar tentunya bertebaran di Bandung dari yang menjajakan di tempat tetap ataupun yang mobile (pedagang keliling). Tapi para pencinta Roti Bakar di Bandung tentu mengenal salah satu pedagang yang namanya cukup melegenda di dunia Roti Bakar, CARI RASA. Saya mengenal roti bakar Cari Rasa sejak SD, karena sering dibelikan oleh bapak saya ketika pulang kantor. Terletak di salah satu sudut depan Pasar Kosambi, Jl. Ahmad Yani, sudah puluhan tahun roti bakar ini tetap bertahan di tengah gempuran pedagang roti lain ataupun jenis makanan lain yang menyainginya. Tekstur roti yang lembut serta kekayaan "bumbu"nya yang selalu dirindukan oleh para pelanggan setianya.

Setelah lama sekali tidak menikmati salah satu kuliner Bandung ini, bulan April kemaren saya berkesempatan untuk mampir lagi ke tempat ini. Ada tiga pilihan ukuran yang bisa kita pesan: Roti kadet (ukuran roti satu tangkap), Roti Kecil (roti panjang dengan pinggiran bergerigi) serta Roti Besar (hampir sama dengan roti tawar biasa yang berbentuk tradisional tapi dengan ukuran cukup besar). Saya memilih Roti Kecil karena sudah terbayang kelembutan daging rotinya yang khas. "Bumbu"nya merupakan gabungan dari: mentega, selai kacang, meses (coklat butir), selai strawberry dan selai nanas. Kalu mau, kita pun bisa memesan roti ini tanpa dibakar. Saya sih tetap memesan Roti Bakar. Begitu selesai dibungkus, sampai mobil dengan tidak sabar langsung saya ambil sepotong roti ini, wuihhhhh, rasanya juaraaaa... Gak tau yah, walaupun roti bakar mungkin sama-sama aja dimana-mana, tapi Roti Bakar CARI RASA ini menyajikan perpaduan kelembutan tekstur roti dan bumbu yang menurut saya beda, lebih gurih, lebih lembut dan lebih kaya akan rasa.

Selain roti bumbu diatas, sekarang Cari Rasa juga menyediakan opsi tambahan seperti keju dan kornet. Dengan harga bervariasi mulai Rp.3500 untuk roti kadet dan Rp.10.000 untuk roti kecil tanpa dibakar. Kalo mau dibakar tambah saja 200perak untuk roti kadet atau gope saja untuk roti kecil. Tambah keju, siapin goceng untuk ukuran roti kecil. Apapun pilihan Anda, rasanya tetap juara :) Kita pun bisa bebas memilih pilihan bumbu yang tersedia, misalnya tanpa selai kacang, tanpa selai nanas dan lain-lain. Sang "koki" akan menghapal semua pesanan kita tanpa catatan dan tanpa urutan order hehehe, padahal aliran pelanggan tampaknya tidak pernah surut terutama di akhir pekan.

Jadi, buat yang lagi liburan, dan butuh alternatif makan untuk oleh-oleh dari Bandung selain Kartika Sari, Prima Rasa, Amanda dan sejenisnya, cobalah Roti Bumbu-Bakar CARI RASA ini. NGOPDOEL alias Ngopi Doeloe Starbucks nya Bandung - Gila dikatain kamseu ma sohib di facebook gara gara ga tau Ngopdoel alias ngopi doeloe, nah biar ga dikatain kamseu juga sama temen2 bagi anda yang belum tau apa itu Ngopdoel, baca sampe abis artikel dibawah ini, informasi bagi anda maniak coffe dan internet, so disini selain tempat nongkrong juga bisa hot spot.

Kalo lagi main di Bandung, coba tanya orang-orang sana di mana cafe yang enak buat nongkrong berlama-lama sambil internetan. Pasti mayoritas jawabannya adalah Cafe Ngopi Doeloe.

Tempat yang sangat cocok untuk bersantai sambil menikmati sajian kopi yang nikmat ditemani dengan akses wi-fi yang gratis. Kalau sudah pernah mampir di Ngopi Doeloe sebelumnya, pasti ingin kembali lagi untuk sekedar menikmati kopi atau bertemu teman di Ngopi Doeloe. Sayangnya Ngopi Doeloe hanya buka sampai pukul 23.00.

Cafe yang biasa disingkat jadi Ngopdoel ini punya beberapa cabang, tapi yang paling rame adalah yang di Jl. Hasanuddin dan Jl. Teuku Umar. Dua-duanya terletak di kawasan Dago. Nggak susah dicari, karena pintu masuknya menyala terang dengan neon sign merah, dan biasanya jalanan di depannya selalu penuh dengan mobil-mobil yang parkir.

Menu utama dan andalannya apa? Wi-Fi.

Yup! Meski punya puluhan jenis makanan dan minuman dalam daftar menunya, sebagian besar pengunjung Ngopdul adalah orang-orang yang mencari Wi-Fi. Selain gratis dan koneksinya lumayan kenceng, nongkrong sambil berlama-lama internetan di Ngopdul juga aman karena nggak usah khawatir diusir. Toh, kapasitas tempat duduknya banyak.

Tapi tentunya nggak asik dong kalo internetan nggak sambil nyeruput minuman atau ngemil-ngemil. Nah, dari berbagai macam pilihan minuman yang ada, mungkin kamu bisa cobain salah satu andalan mereka yaitu Frozen Cookies and Cream. Harganya nggak nyampe Rp 20 ribu dan disajikan dalam gelas ukuran besar. Berbagai macam Italian Soda juga tersedia, selain tentunya beberapa jenis minuman kopi (iya lah, nama cafenya aja Ngopi Doeloe).

Untuk makanan, harganya bervariasi dari Rp 10 ribu sampa Rp 30 ribu. Dari mulai roti bakar, indomie rebus, sampai steak dan spaghetti, semua ada!

So, ngopi dulu yuk di Ngopi Doeloe!

Mie Baso AKUNG Bandung - Tak sedap sepertinya kalau jalan jalan ke bandung tidak mencicipi mie baso, memang jajanan baso ini banyak tersebar di berbagai sudut kota bandung, salah satu mie baso yang sudah banyak penggemarnya adalah Mie Baso AKUNG yang terletak di jl lodaya, mencoba mencicipi baso yang satu ini memang tidak mengecewakan. hmmmm yummy. "Belum berwisata kuliner di Bandung kalo belum ke Akung", itu yang pernah dikatakan teman saya mengomentari salah satu ikon kuliner di kota Bandung ini. Saya sendiri pertama kali mengenal Mie Baso Akung ketika masih SMA, masih berlokasi di daerah GOR Saparua dan menempati bangunan semi permanen. Zaman saya kuliah, tiba-tiba saya kehilangan Akung yang ternyata pindah ke Jl. Lodaya 123 dan menempati rumah yang tentunya lebih baik dari lokasi sebelumnya. Kalau datang pada jam makan siang atau hari libur, mungkin anda harus bersabar untuk menunggu mendapatkan meja, saking penuhnya tempat ini. Sebenarnya apa saja sih yang bisa kita nikmati di tempat ini?

Mie Yamin Baso Ceker, mie yamin ini diracik khusus sehingga bumbunya benar-benar merata ke seluruh mie sebelum sampai ke meja kita. Bisa memesan Yamin Manis, Sedang atau Asin, sesuai selera. Dan bagi yang tidak mempunyai usus yang panjang atau lambung yang cukup besar, saya sarankan untuk memesan 1/2 porsi saja, sudah sangat cukup koq. Karena jika kita satu porsi mie ini membutuhkan ruangan yang cukup besar di perut kita. Sebagai pendamping, tersedia pilihan variasi BPTSC (Baso - Pangsit - Tahu - Siomay - Ceker) yang disajikan dalam kuah dengan aroma yang "mengundang".

Es Teler Durian, sebenernya favorit dessert dari tempat makan ini adalah Es Durian, tapi karena saya bukan maniak durian, maka saya pesan es teler durian aja. Kelapa muda, agar-agar, kolang-kaling dan tentu saja buah durian merupakan campuran dari minuman segar ini. Duriannya sendiri berbentuk gelondongan utuh, tidak dilumerkan seperti di Es Durian Ganti Nan Lamo di Padang. Tapi kalau anda datang di atas jam 2 siang, jangan terlalu berharap dapat menikmati es durian ini, biasanya sudah habis.

Jadi, lengkapilah wisata kuliner di kota Bandung anda dengan mencicipi Mie Baso Akung. Tapi jangan datang ke tempat ini hari Jumat karena tutup. (www.banyumurti.net)

Setelah memilih, maka kita dapat langsung membayar dan pesanan kita akan dibawakan ke meja yang tersedia.

Es Duren dan Mie Ayam Kantin Sakinah Bandung - Jalan jalanya masih seputar bandung, nah sekarang nyasar lagi di tempat makan yang enak banget, yaitu mie ayam dan es duren di kantin sakinah, entah mengapa kantin ini dinamai Sakinah. Bisa jadi pendirinya bercita-cita punya keluarga yang ideal. Tapi buat warga Bandung, terutama anak-anak mudanya yang jadi konsumen terbesar tempat makan yang polanya mirip food court ini, cuma ada dua yang dicari di sini, yaitu es duren dan mie ayam.

Mie Ayam Sakinah

Mie Ayam Sakinah emang beda... Mienya lebih "nyemek" (kalo boleh pinjem istilah mie Jawa), bumbunya lebih "cakep" n ayamnya "bener-bener daging ayam" (gak cuma potongan sisa ayam seperti leher). Yup itu yang memang membedakan Mie Ayam Sakinah ini dibanding mie ayam lainnya yang bertebaran di kota Bandung maupun kota lainnya. Sedikit lebih mahal memang karena satu porsi Mie Bakso Pangsit dihargai RP. 9rb, dan masalahnya satu mangkok mie ayam di tempat ini tidak pernah cukup :))

Es Duren Sakinah

Kalo udah ke tempat ini gak boleh terlewat cobain juga Es Durennya... Dengan harga Rp 15rb kita bisa menikmati satu porsi berisi 6-7 butir durian yang dipadu dengan es serut dan susu kental manis. Es Duren di tempat ini memang salah satu yang dicari para pelanggannya. Jadi kayanya sudah satu paket Mie Ayam + Es Duren. Suegernya manteb lah...

Bisa coba juga variasi es duren lainnya seperti Es Durian+Susu+Keju (dahsyat gak tuh?), Es Durian Alpukat, Es Durian Kacang, Es Durian Gula Merah dan lain-lain. Saya sendiri mencoba perpaduan Es Durian Aplukat yang bisa ditebus seharga Rp. 17rb.

Mie Ayam Sakinah sendiri sebenarnya nama populer dari Mie Ayam Baso "MAS JOKO". Disebut Mie Ayam Sakinah karena mereka berjualan di semacam pujasera yang bernama "Kantin Sakinah" yang berjualan bersama aneka makanan lainnya seperti es duren, siomay, gado-gado dan lain-lain. Pertama mengenalnya jaman kuliah tahun 90an dulu, karena terletak tak jauh dari kampus, yaitu di Jl. Tubagus Ismail I. Namun sekarang tempatnya sudah pindah tepat di seberang tempat yang lama masih di ruas jalan yang sama. Mie Ayamnya masih yang lama tapi penjaja Es Durennya sudah berbeda. Katanya Es Duren yang lama buka gerai baru di Jl. Tubagus Ismail Raya-nya. Jadi buat yang mencari wisata kuliner Bandung yang murah tapi mantab silakan meluncur ke Jl Tubagus Ismail I (kawasan Jl. Dago).

Maribaya Waterfalls in Bandung West Java

Waterfalls, recreation grounds and a magnificent gorge make Maribaya, just a few minutes east of Lembang, a very popular resort. On Sundays this is a particularly crowded spot. Minibuses and horse carts are frequent from Lembang. Maribaya draws many Bandung residents on Sundays because of the hot springs which are channeled into a small public pool and various private cabins. Some come here for the children’s playground and horseback ridding (about $3/hr.), and many just to have a picnic in the park.

A magnificent walk leads through the Cikapundung Gorge to Juanda Park, about an hour and a half away. The path leads first to a waterfall (unfortunately, no swimming is possible) and then in to the gorge. Farther on the path forks: left leads out of the valley again, up the slope and to an other fork where turning left takes you to an impressive view points just above Maribaya; the path to the right takes you to Dago. Walking further through the gorge you reach Juanda Park, passing Japanese World War II bunkers along the way. Another hike back to Bandung begins at the new car park posted “Curug Omas”, which is 5 km from the Lembang crossroads and before you reach Maribaya. This path provides far better views than the rail in the gorge. This trail, too, goes to Juanda Park or, some forty-five minutes longer, to the Ciumbuleuit area. Directions Go straight (east) at the Lembang crossroads and follow the charming tree-lined road. Some 4 km from Lembang the roads begins to dip steeply into the Cikapundung Valley. If you go by horse cart you have to walk this last downhill section. The Maribaya recreation park is 5.5 km from the crossroads.
